Monday was an easy day. We took a drive up over the Catalina
Mountains. We were treated to great views of Tucson from as high as 8,000’. The
highway ended at Summerhaven and we took Control Road, a primitive dirt road
kept as an escape road in case of fire, down the backside of the mountains to
Oracle, AZ. Along the way we stopped for a picnic in the forest of Douglas Fir
trees. It was quiet. The scent of evergreens and the sound of the breeze through
the trees was very calming.
