Colorado Springs, CO Day Five

I thought I had better check in an let you know we are still kicking. Barbara is home checking on the house, spending time with her mom, and catching up with friends. She also took advantage of being home to see the doctor about an infected toe. She stubbed it while in Niceville, FL and evidently damaged the nail. She was doing fine until all of that downhill hiking in Moab. The diagnosis was an infection and she is now on antibiotics. Hope it clears up soon, because when she gets back we will be doing some more hiking and I doubt it will be very level.

I have been getting caught up on chores around the motorhome, and there are still plenty more to accomplish. The big distraction has been the Miller Moths. The area is infested with them and they manage to find their way into the coach despite my efforts. There must be gaps in the structure that is allowing them in. They seem to be at their worst about the time I am trying to go to bed. They start flying around and buzzing around my reading light. These guys are big! They are about half the length of my little finger and about as wide. I have given up smacking them with a fly swatter since that requires a chase and kicks up a lot of dust. They leave a mark, too.

Last night I took the advice received from a fellow RV’r, and placed a shallow pan of soapy water under a nightlight. It seems to work by drawing them away from the bedroom and as they flop around they accidentally plop in the water and drown. There were over a dozen corpses in the pan this morning. I will continue the battle tonight.

This campground is very nice and run by some friendly people. The only drawback is the proximity to the railroad tracks. The rumble as they pass is not really a problem since you can get used to that pretty quick.

The issue is the horn blast some engineers seem to think is necessary, regardless of the hour. It may very well be, but they seem to reserve this treat for the nighttime hours.

As viewed from the coach living room, you can see the train through the trees.

Barbara will be back Sunday and we will pick up once again on the sightseeing. We are looking forward to visiting the mining town of Cripple Creek and some parks west of Woodland Park.
