Barbara and I arrived right on time and found Alpen Rose RV
Park to be a very nice, but pricey, park. It was a very pretty ride from Albuquerque
to Durango with hills that were manageable. We crossed the Continental Divide
along the way.
Unfortunately, when we set up we blew a hydraulic line on the passenger side
slide. We have the slide back in now, reducing our living area. I went through
the manuals to get an idea of what we were up against.
We got a tech to come out to the park and went through
things. He is laughing because he pulled a Tom Sawyer and got me in the bin doing the work.
We left it with him coming back out Monday morning to work something in
the way of slide locks to keep it from accidentally moving out. We will spend
the weekend doing the things we had planned to do. After Durango we will move
on to Moab, UT to visit the National Parks in that area. From there we will
move to Colorado Springs via Gunnison. That’s the plan. Well, so far the plans have
not been too successful, but we will give it a go.
I suppose we should have known things were not going to go well when we stepped out of the coach at our site and right into a pile of Elk Duds.
Right now we are enjoying the beautiful surroundings here as
the sun sets on our first day in Durango. The views from our campsite are
great.
Looks like we will have to change the rest of our plans some, too. We already
scrapped the western Utah portion of our trip, but thought that when Barbara
comes back to Colorado Springs we would venture back into the mountains of
Southern Colorado. Now we are thinking of making an appointment at the
Winnebago factory in Iowa to have the slide thoroughly gone over and repaired
right.
Not what we thought this trip would be originally, but what the heck,
life is an adventure right?
