The wind the weather service has been promising all week
finally showed up. Cooler weather, too. We bundled up nice and warm and headed
to Santa Fe to visit Old Town. It was quite windy and off to the west of I-25
you could see considerable dust had been blown up.
Old Town Santa Fe is a very nice shopping area and art
center organized around a mission and mission square.
Most of the shops specialized in Indian jewelry and crafts.
Mostly high-end stuff. Santa Fe reminds me of a Rocky Mountain version of
Carmel By The Sea in California. There are certainly plenty of art galleries,
but we stuck with the museums. We enjoyed the American Indian Art Institute,
Santa Fe Museum of Art, and the Georgia O’Keefe Museum.
There was also a sidewalk area set aside for local Indian
vendors to sell their wares directly.
A couple here at the campground suggested a Mexican
restaurant frequented by locals, so we stopped there on the way home for a late lunch. Maria’s New
Mexican Kitchen on West Cordova Road was terrific. Nice atmosphere and really
great food. We enjoyed it very much, especially the Carne Adovada.
The drive home was adventurous. The wind was even stronger
and we had the pleasure of sleet part of the way. The clouds are clearing now,
but it is still pretty windy as I watch the setting sun illuminate Sandia Peak
from the comfort of the coach.
Absolutely loved your pictures. We were in Santa Fe years ago and some of those pictures were extremely familiar scenes. What beautiful country out there. I know you are having a wonderful time.
